Hello!

Nobody wants to be branded a statto but it is useful to have a few
facts and figures handy to convince people that the sport is
organised and has a growing number of competitors.

The latest issue of Disc Golf World News has some provisional
stats from the PDGA for 1999 which I thought I would share with
you all.

Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) all time members
over 15000, currently paid up 5650, which is 12-13% up on last
year.

PDGA sanctioned 333 tournaments, an increase of 22% on 1998

Estimated 30000 player entries in those events

Tour purse estimated to be close to $700,000

Top tournament purse was $50,000 for Worlds, 12 tournaments
had between $10,000 - 20,000 prize noney.

Top pros Ken Climo and Ron Russel each won $20,000

110 courses added to the PDGA course directory between Jan
1st and September 1st.

Installed courses expected to pass 1000 mark early next year.

The above does not cover the much larger amount of activity at
recreational level. Most players do not join PDGA nor compete in
sanctioned events. One pay-for-play course in California has
50,000 rounds played per year. Most courses are free and no
record of activity exists.

BDGA membership stands at 125, of whom about 2/3 are paid up.
