Lawrence (and anyone wondering)

This was the best format available given that we had a
top16 and bottom12. I believe that it was important to
run on the basis of a top 16 at least once this season.
(I can give a longer explanation of the various options that
we had - but I thought this was *overall, on balance* the
best option.)
Note that teams should be able to play important games at
any time of the w/e - but I take your point.

On the other 4 events great care has been taken to ensure
that the format of the tournament as viewed by 'bottom teams'
has been fair and considerate (and definitely NOT an afterthought).

Usually the middle group of teams are the ones that get the
worst deal in the schedule. One aim of the format/schedule
at Soton was re-dress the balance somewhat.

As for playing the same team twice, I thought I had avoided
that, but was aware that it might happen. It looked unlikely
to me (as I recall).
I hope it didn't happen to more than 2 teams - apologies to
anyone that did end up playing the same team twice. The best
I can do is to say that it is always a consideration when
writing a schedule, but sometimes results conspire against you!

Glad the tourney was a success -
on a personal note, I hope to get to Exeter!!!!
