We also had a low turnout from other european countries. With the 2nd and 3rd ranked Brits missing the main contenders were Marco Lehousse from Begium, myself and 1995 PDGA Masters champion Bob Vanderboss. Bob V and Dan Lovett had flown over from the US specifically to play the tournament. Perhaps it was the jet lag but Bob and Dan were not on top form and it turned into a two horse race. I led after the first round thanks to an ace on the 16th hole. Marco caught me on the 2nd round and went ahead by 3 on the third with a course record 48. On the final 9 Marco dropped some shots with missed putts and unlucky roll-aways. I got 3 birdies and picked up 5 shots in 5 holes to go 2 up. With a bogey by me and a birdie by Marco we were tied with 2 to play. On the last hole Marco hit a tree and had to settle for par, I had a great drive and a 5 metre put for the Championship which I just missed left. Marco won the first play-off hole to retain his British Open title. So with my taking the Belgian Open title from him earlier this year we now hold each others national titles! Bob Vanderboss finished 3rd and Dan Lovett took 4th after he and Andrew Wainstein decided to play off for 4-5th. The Juniors Division was won by Oran Villiers-Stuart and the Womens Division by Ruth Lissaman.
