X-Sun-Charset: US-ASCII Sender: owner-britdisc@csv.warwick.ac.uk Precedence: bulk ** PLEASE READ THIS ** Its not thrilling... but if you don't act... who will? By the end of summer we should really have a good idea of when&where all the major tournaments for following season will happen. But first - we haven't even got everything for this season. Although they are no longer part of nationals we are still having REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. I have only heard one vague mention of a bid thus far. They are planned for late October. But exact date is flexible. Go on.... 1998 ---- OUTDOORS. Ultim-8 Tour. Tournaments will happen at roughly SIMILAR times to this year - but are NOT fixed to those dates. You need at least 8 pitches (and good ones). I can fill you in on other requirements if you are interested. ACT SOON. Full bids must be with me by 1 Sept (for discussion at Eastbourne). This looks pretty healthy - potential interest already from over 5 hosts/venues. Nationals. Again will happen late September. Again - want bid by 1 Sept 1997. Will need 10-12 pitches (prob. 12). INDOORS. Nationals. There is some question as to how this should be done. Obviously nobody wants to talk about indoors at this time of year - but the current system is very hard to run. Any ideas? Get in touch with me, Paul Meaney or Scott.. or just start shouting about it. ** Other EVENTS ** Student, Women and Junior Tournaments. We must try to coordinate when all these tourneys happen (indoors and outdoors) in relation to each other and the main Open events. If you are thinking of trying to host one of these events talk to the relevant coordinator and/or me please. And just to see HOW MANY people managed to wade to the bottom, I have a related question... last year there was a Women's Nationals at the same time as Open Nationals. I heard several 'complaints' that this discriminated against certain teams and the 'coed game'. I am interested to know more of what people feel about this question - (I have spoken to quite a few women players about it obviously). Putting my neck on the block: I believe that we should run Women's Nationals at the same time as Open Nationals.. AND that we should aim to have this situation propogating to other major tournaments over subsequent years. (And that the format of both tournaments should be sufficiently full that it would be essentially impossible to play in both. In theory there are enough women players for 8 teams.) And remember folks... THINK before you FLAME. Look forward to hearing bids and opinions Si ---- Simon Hill amtsjh@amsta.leeds.ac.uk 0113 289 0971 (h) 0113 233 5175 (w) 532D Whitehall Rd New Farnley LEEDS LS12 5HZ
