(Thought: Perhaps if we all recruited locally then > we would get more settled players?) > I believe Ben Booth mentioned the Oxfordshire Korfball League before. The reality of this was the my team, Oxford City, was in the classic predicament that some ultimate teams seem to find themsleves in - a small core of regular players, a yearly flux of new people from the Universities, no real competition and no real improvement. So some of City split off and formed Abingdon Town. The OKA then set up the first league with 7 teams, City 1, 2 and 3, two abingdon teams and two oxford uni teams. Abingdon won it (in a pretty big upset) and this did their player base the power of good because a lot of people got 'the bug' and brought more and more people in. Oxford can now conentrate on bringing new players into the club and we've just set up a team in brookes uni who will also play in the league. In addition we pick the National League squad from all teams so everyone has a chance at competing in national level. Maybe this is a way forward - people are actively encouraged to play competitively in a local forum and then the top team gets a regular pool of players to select a squad from. but the difference is that the OKA has a team of people who run it and who are dedicated to running it, as well as playing in it.
