The award ceremony went something along these lines: SOTG: Strange Blue This year, we moved to having each team give a 1-5 spirit vote after each game. All teams played 7 games, the SOTG totals spanned the range 22-33. Strange Blue and Skunk Stimulate were actually joint winners on total SOTG scores, but after an assortment of cross-referenced opinions Strange Blue were awarded the trophy and chocolates. TROPHY 1 Space Monkeys 2 Hammerage (2000 champions) 3 Yo Mama 4 Skunk Stimulate 5 Sublime 6 Blue Arse Flies 7 Oasis 8 Discult PLATE 9 Whiplash 10 Strange Blue 11 SNOAP 12 SkuMy 13 Mr Men 14 Slipdisc 15 Vortex Camulodunum 16 TBA (Fluid Druids cameo) Every team got a trophy this year - a figurine of some bloke throwing a forehand/sidearm. [If any other TDs are interested in obtaining such trophies, I've got contact details for possibly the only shop in the UK that stocks them.] A couple of quick comments: SNOAP, winners of Southampton Indoors in December 2001 and seeded 1, looked somewhat different at Newport, noticeably missing Matt, Adam Batchelor (OK, he rolled in on Sunday, but...) and Pete Hallett. Their replacements were better looking. Yo Mama featured the return of Andrew 'AC' Christofi, somewhat grayer than when last seen in the vicinity of flying plastic, but still with that fire in his somewhat rounder belly. Due to a late withdrawal by Angels (a lot of them seems to be broken! Hope they recover from their injuries.) the Fluid Druids made a cameo appearance at their own tournament. It turned out that there were about a dozen of them scattered about the entered teams. Indoors-schmindoors? Pah! It looked very wet outside, but the Newport swimming pool was warm! Thanks to all coming along and making it what it was. My thanks to the other members of the Fluid Druids for their general assistance in running the event on the day, and those special few other people that helped out with time/scorekeeping. Wayne Retter Fluid Druids - Hosts of the Newport Indoor Ultimate Tournament currently playing with Yo Mama :-) PS: Lost Property - is all in the boot of my car, probably until mid- week, when I'll try to work out exactly what it consists of. If you know you've lot something, let me know.
