Most of us now expect a lot from a tournament. Competitive ultimate, well-grassed pitches, experienced TDs, field-side massage, ambulance cover, insurance, refreshing tropical fruit beverages, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing that the possibility of African hunting dog attack is remote. In Moshi on the 24th November, you'll get none of it. Nearly every player will have less than three months experience. Our surface has seen three days of rain in the last twelve months. And there's a pack of hunting dogs living in the scrubland on the other side of the golf course. What I can promise is one of the most spectacular backdrops ever in the history of ultimate (the snow-capped peak of Mt Kilimanjaro stares down over the tops of the trees at the north end of the field), a better-than-even chance of cloudless blue skies, and unlimited quantities of cold Safari Lager. If Charlie Mead makes it, we might even be able to tie him to a stake to distract the dogs. Registration is just 2,500 Tanzanian shillings (about A$4.50), and will start at 9am. Captains meeting is at 9.30; games start at 10.00. A taxi should take you to the Moshi Club from the bus station in town for a thousand shillings or so. You're all welcome. sol _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
