Quick view of waht I am saying: *I think there needs to be more effort in promoting Ultimate at schools levels* *The student captains need to be asking whether they are actively looking to include females in their beginners teams, and use the CoEd tour to bring forward developing women* Something that I want to put forward as a factor to the lack of female ultimate players: interest in sport... One of the factors is that women don't, across society, compete in sport as broadly as males. Our club includes failed footballers, rugby players, athletes, basketball players, rowers... the list goes on. A higher number of men play sport in general and often Ultimate picks up the good sportspeople that haven't quite excelled elsewhere. The fact is that schools and society still don't promote female sport, and there seem to be less 'residual' sportswomen. So not only do women get overlooked at clubs, women who tend to be good at sport are already established in sports. *I think there needs to be more effort in promoting Ultimate at schools levels*... the three best uni women I have played with in the last two years came to uni either knowing how to play completely or they had been taught how to throw, which meant they could play with the best of the boys. Which leads me to my next point. At our club we recognise it as the 'bug', where people just get hooked. We recognise that this develops most strongly at tournaments! *The student captains need to be asking whether they are actively looking to include females in their beginners teams* where the field is level. Knowing full-well that tournaments lead to commitment to the club, where the females feel that they have a place amoungst the other beginners, we actively look to take a high percentage of females to beginners tournies. I was also saddened to see the low numbers of student teams entering the CoEd tour with beginners women, it is the perfect opportunity to develop skills. Which ranting leads me to agree with Leanne and push for greater intergration (forced if necessary to start with) of men and women. By playing alongside, with the women shouting loudly, the men (who are slow in the head) start to realise that they are good, in soe cases very good! I am sure I could write some more, but I will open this up. Sox Northen Lights ____________________________________________________________ Nokia Game is on again.
