The Welcome party kicked off with several teams making it to Nottingham early, not wanting to miss anything. The Moderns Clubhouse Bar ran until 3am and the music from His Highness Sound System, just didn’t stop. Saturday started slowly, with schedules going walkabout, but this gave everyone time to enjoy breakfast and shuffle out of the haze of mornings and a few shuffles to the format & rules, games started late but smoothly. By the end of the day several teams had been ousted from their positions. Most notably for us was SuperFly finally beating Red, a close game, and possibly not to be seen again for a while. During the afternoon there was a series of strange weather conditions, one down pour in particular were the Animal shaped hailstones almost floating from the sky. Could it have been a message from God? Perhaps… What could she have been suggesting? Did anyone hear Bryan Adams playing at the festival across the river? The kids from the Meadows estate shot at him, while he was on stage… only joking, shame though isn’t it. (Ed. Note: Canada has apologised on many occasions for Bryan Adams) The BIG party on Saturday nite requested Hawaiian skirts n shirts, the ingenious Emma (Munchkin) supplied some of the best. What time did you sleep? A big apology goes out to those who actually tried to sleep that nite. Sunday brought a new schedule format and some of the best play, in particular the up and coming teams looking for a place at Nationals. In the upper pools, Chevron were suffering from substantial abuse after being copa’d & missed out on the opportunity of another final being beaten by Strange Blue leaving them to battle it out with KUPA, for the coveted ‘Robin the Bold’ character prize. Kupa controlled the action for most of the first half, leaving Strange points behind at half time. During the second half, heightening the thrills of the finale, Strange fought strong and hard to assert themselves into the game. Layout action and solid play won the day thru Stange winning the event by a narrow but definite margin. Many tired and dishevelled players found themselves pondering aimlessly on Sunday nite and the quiet revellery floated to the Marquee and took advantage of the FlyghtClub Bar. The HAT event was a fun, 6-team affair, with all the teams winning one and losing one. So, on points difference ‘Free Beer 4 Team 1’ and ‘Look! No Hands’ plied points in an attempt to look good on camera. Sammy Neilson led a team of judges scoring the games by quality, ranging ½ point to 4 points depending on skill, silliness, effectiveness and showmanship. Free Beer came from half time 9.4 losers to take the game 21.20 at full time. There may have been a prize ceremony, nobody knows. In addition to an earlier email, I would like to add my thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen and to everyone who came and enjoyed, without you there would be no excuse for this kind of gathering. Thanks to all of you, especially those who travelled far. Special thanks to Jimi & Jules @ Moderns & His Highness Sounds.
