Firstly, We are videoing Nationals and would like your help. Secondly, We'd like to ask what you'd like to see in any coverage the sport receives. NATIONALS Block Stack Productions are a group of ultimate players who aim to promote the sport through making videos. So far we've made two, one at Warwick in January and one in Nottingham at the now infamous bong tournament. Those who have seen either of the tapes will know that we are taking it "seriously" :-) For nationals we aim to make a 2.5 hour video featuring some of the best bits from Saturday most of the action from the top teams on the Sunday. For the first time we have some post production facilities at our disposal so the tape will be a little bit tighter than before, We have also got our score board fixed since Warwick and also have some music too. In order to make our commentary job easier we use team sheets so we can recognise players on the pitch. Previously we have filled them in at the tournament, but because of the number of teams its may be impractical to do this at Cheltenham. If you could put together a team sheet including Name, Nickname, Distinctive features, (Glasses, height, crazy hair, no hair, knee supports, baseball caps, bandanas, cloven hooves, are all very useful, eye colour less so) and any other comments. Information on the teams history, location, and other spurious data makes the commentary more interesting. Email completed sheets to blockstack@hotmail.com and I'll do my best to learn names and facts. If you have a team photo you could scan in, or a web site with photos of the team that would be even better. Congratulations to all the teams who qualified for Nationals I'll see you there. FUTURE OF THE GAME In the light of the Nottingham tournament and its much discussed aftermath, and this weeks discussion on the development of the sport, I thought it would be a good time to ask you, the ultimate community (sorry golfers), What you would like from any coverage of the sport. Our current format is the final ten minutes of each game, with scoreboard in between each point and some analysis from anyone who cares to give it. At the end of the game a courtside interview with a player from each team. Ideas and input about how we can improve this format are very welcome. If you've seen one of our videos and thought something could have been improved or included, we'd like to know about that too. Those are things that we can control there are things that we can't control. For example when a team doesn't have the same kit the game is very hard to follow on TV. The fact that the lines on the pitch are usually very difficult to see doesn't help. There are scheduling concerns too but a TD's job is tough enough as it is. Any other thoughts, advice, offers of help, (emma from mwnci get in touch) or equipment (specifically semi-pro digital video cameras, duplication equipment) is also appreciated. One final Note Although we did video the closing ceremony from Nottingham we cut the scene from the tape before it was copied.
