Precedence: bulk

We have had many events where there is a team fee plus a player fee. BUF
Open at Eastbourne is a recent example, but going back a few years, some of
the tournaments I ran had that concept (National Indoors in Plymouth 94,
£2.50 per head to sleep in Sports Hall and have breakfast; South West
Regionals 95, again for breakfast, etc.), mainly because you were trying to
have 'added value' and it seemed wrong that larger squads would benefit more
if you just whacked up the team fee to cover costs.

The downside is the administration involved. If you're issuing party
tickets, then it's normally in team's interests to declare the right number.
Issuing meal tickets means someone has to 'police' the system.

When the tour first started, it was discussed at some length whether teams
in the top 8 should pay a higher rate because of their privileged position
(tended to be longer games, better pitches, etc.) and generally, have a much
larger squad. Catch always tended to be the exception playing with a squad
of 9 (normally not through choice). I'm pretty sure we did agree this tiered
system of payment, but no one ever put it into effect.

We also discussed having a team fee and a player fee on top (mainly because
of student teams that struggled to get a team of more than 8 players out),
but without the obvious added value, administering it was the sticking
point. Tournament Directors and U8 committee members have enough on their
plate without the added inconvenience.

With Stig (Tour 2) looking at the possibility of providing this added value,
then there will a good test case for the tour.

Echoing what others have said, if you're concerned about the hike in price
of tour tournaments (and I certainly am), then do something about it. Put in
a bid to run a Tour tournament next year. Having had two years off from
running a Tour event in Exeter, I almost feel stress-free enough to do it
again, and I can promise that the team fee (can't be arsed with player fees)
will still not be over £60.
