Last weekend was the Northern Student Indoor Qualifiers held
in Leeds. The standard of play was consistently high all weekend
and any of a number of sides were in with a shot of qualification.
With only three qualification places and eleven first teams it was
always going to be a tough tournament.
Saturday saw the group games and some surprise results
including a victory by Phat-'Eds 2 over Jedi 1 and a great win for
Hulltimate over Northern Lights. The top 8 going into Sunday's
Quarter-Finals were Phat-'Eds 1+2, Jedi, Hulltimate, Northern
Lights,
Yorkie Bar Kids, Fish and Finger 6.
Fish ended Phat-'Eds second team's impressive run while a
Fingers team growing in confidence defeated Hulltimate. Lights'
qualification hopes were ended by a dominant Phat-'Eds
performance and a nail-biting quarter-final between Jedi and Yorkie
Bar Kids went to sudden-death at 5-5 before Rich Hims got the
winning catch for Jedi, defeating a great York side.
The semi-finals saw Phat-'Eds confidently stride into the final with a
victory over Fingers and Fish banished memories of missing out on
Nationals last year by beating Jedi in another close game.
The final was a relatively straightforward 13-6 victory for Phat- 'Eds
over Fish but both teams had safely qualified. In the 3/4
qualification play-off intense play by Jedi put daylight between them
and Finger 6 at the beginning. Fingers fought to the end but Jedi
managed to maintain their lead and take the final qualification place.
Elsewhere, Posh Disc, over from Trinity College, Dublin
managed to edge a brilliant plate final against Fish 2 and Lights
made a storming comeback to take fifth from Phat-'Eds 2. Jedi
Juniors were proud spoon winners while Boogie Knights 2 were a
popular spirit choice. Congratulations to Flaming Monkeys as well.
It was their first tourney and for a few of them, their first ever match!

everyone who came and made it a great tournament.
