Janet Hawes, Leeds – Winners 2. OW!, Oxford 3. Skunks, Southampton 4. Phat’Eds, Sheffield 5. Ro-Sham-Bo, Edinburgh 6. SWAC, London 7. Bears, Warwick Uni 8. Squaws, Brighton - Joint Spirit Winners 9. Mythago, Bristol - Joint Spirit Winners 10. Angels, Cardiff With every team winning at least one game, the round-robin tournament format results were close with 4 of the 8 placings decided on the last 2 pool games played. The improvement in play throughout both days was immense. Some of the most competitive games included: Phat ‘Eds (4) v Janet Hawes (1) 5:7 Angels (10) v Bears (7) 5:3 Phat’Eds (4) v Ro-Sham-Bo (5) 8:7 Squaws (8) v Mythago (9) 5:4 Skunks (3) v Bears (7) 6:5 Spirit nominations were spread across many of the teams with Squaws and Mythago tied. The final saw the only undefeated team, Janet Hawes, v home team OW! Having lost severely in pool play (7:3) it was time for Oxford’s revenge. Relying on a strong, balanced team, and good understanding between players, JH were taken by surprise by OW!’s improvement over the weekend. Oxford took an early lead but strong defence from JH, combined with break-force throws, ensured OW! were always going to have to work hard. Despite OW! just managing to stay ahead for 24 minutes of the game, victory was clinched by JH in sudden death to finish 8:7 (or was it 9:8????). A HUGE thank you to all the guys who helped out this weekend - in particular: the Oxford boys who grudgingly gave up their Sat night to have a women’s team sleeping in their room; the power trip guys who I couldn’t get off the score board; the minibus drivers – petrol is always a good plan guys!; the pick-up game boys who couldn’t resist showing how to throw away with style; and the general hecklers who turned up to give constructive criticism. Lost property: One pair of tracksuit trousers A couple of discs One game of butt head?
