All teams are co-ed (4-3) 1 division of 8 "competitive" teams (played on 1 night) 3 divisions of 8 "development" teams (played on 1 night) Players are allowed to play for competitive and recreational teams. Recreational teams asked to rank themselves at the start of the season (according to experience etc) and are assigned to a division. There is two sets of relegation and promotion within the season (allowing the #1 ranked team to come last and the #24 team to come first) and yes, some teams win all their games, get promoted and lose all their games, get relegated and win all their games. But that happens in the Premier division too. Competitive teams do not have promotion or relegation. So, yes there are "super teams" in the competitive division, but if your lifes ambition is to destroy all the opposition in the Calgary Ultimate League (Tuesday) division.... then you need to get out more. The idea (at least as I understand it) is to play regularly, with people you want to play with, learn new stuff, teach people new stuff, drink beer and have fun. Most teams need ~16 players to be able to field a team every night, there are normally 1-2 teams that fold each season. And that is how we do it here. BTW There was a comment a few messages ago about not wanting to get off the pitch to allow another person to play. From the point of view of an old, slow and unfit player, I need all the subs I can get. And, yes, playing with 14/16 players IS different from playing with 8. For the better, IMHO. The game is more dynamic, faster and more intense. Who wants to watch a team of players so tired that they cannot get within 5 yards of their man?
