As everyone knows by now st andrews,(me), did not take a dropped pullin our game against Ow! The score was 8-8 and it was sudden death, we pulled and then chased it up with all our force. However as the disc came down right in the corner one of there players stuck out his knee to stop it. This was not him attempting to take the catch he was attempting to stop the disc from going right out of bounds, thus saving himself a walk. Now I know the rules and I had made dam sure that the rest of my team knew them too. So I made the call and there followed a short debate with my team to which we decided that since he did not know what he had done wrong we let play continue thus leaving Ow! with the disc. Now this is different to if he had tried to catch it and then dropped it. If we had taken the disc from them as the rules say I think it would have been a harsh punishment as that would have finalised the game we probably would have won and would have been very lucky. We in my opinion did not lose the game because of that decision we had lost it earlier in our poor start to the game. In the end if he had not put his leg out in front of the disc Ow! would have beaten us anyway, so to punish a whole team for the mistake of one out of ignorance did to me and my team seem harsh and I have no regrets in my decision. They deserved the win and credit to them for holding 5th as well. Just a note to all captains though for next time, it is your responsibility to explain the rules to your players so if a team is not as generous as us next time you should blame yourself not him/her. So thanks to Andy B for his support as in the end for us at least it is the taking part with spirit which is the most important and we felt that to have taken it would have been against our spirit of the game maybe not everyone elses but at least ours, and thats what counts! So anyway thanks to si for his piss taking comments, I'd just like to say that in the Bears match I was one of those that thought he showed poor spirit, it was not the way that he enforced the rules I feel that he had every right ,BUT it was the way that they did it. Picking up the disc and scoring before most of the Bears team knew what was going on, was that really necessary why such a rush I mean at 10-2 noone needs to score a point like that!! It seemed more like brutal enforcement of the rules why not show just a glimpse of the spirit we know you have deep deep deep deepd deep deep deep down somewhere. Just one last thing si I know you don't seem to agree with me on this one but in your last e-mail you stated " you will ALWAYS take the disc if it is a dropped pull except if the player does not know the rules, in which case you would ask" Are you not then agreeing with my decision. I avidly wait for all comments as I sit here or maybe I'll just see youall in Manchester, well some of you anyway. Good luck to all Gillon Flying Sorcerers St Andrews
