One guy with bucks. Big bucks. He is willing to pay players to come play. He awards significant prize money out of his own pocket. ESPN responds to his significant (for disc sports) prize money, and his persistent efforts. ($30,000 for last years winners.) Having never seen the game, I can't say what its like, but the quotes on the site (www.goaltimate.com) from well-known ultimate players are some endorsement (if they are real.) Ultimate, even in the U.S., even w/ sponsors, does not have near the kind of money to match this one guy. (I think he says he spent something like $250,000 on last years tournament - one tournament!) So if ultimate can find a sugar daddy, good things can happen too, although increased efforts to make the sport TV-friendly are still needed. Hi from America, land of the dollar. Okay, the lots of dollars. (Hey, maybe you guys can sell Branson on it - just call ultimate "Virgin Frisbee". But don't let him change any rules.) (Okay, we could use a red disc.) (No, not a "Red" disc, a red disc.) ___________________________________ Stephen Young, Deputy Director Coalition to Reduce Nuclear Dangers 110 Maryland Ave. NE #505 Washington DC 20002 p: (202)546-0795 ext. 102; fax: (202)546-7970 website: <http://www.crnd.org> ___________________________________
