Seems to be far too much dull stuff on britdisc at the moment. Need some more
tournament reports - interesting debates - or do all those go out the window
until summer starts up again ? I know, what about an ex-pat filter so that we
don't have to overuse the delete key ..... blah, blah, blah ...

Anyway - a tournament report from the other side of the world for you ....

Date : 23/24/25th October (Labour Day weekend)
Venue : Taupo, Central North Island, New Zealand
The Taupo Hat 1999.

Ultimate players converged on Lake Taupo in the heart of North Island, about 3
1/2 hours South of Auckland and 5 hours North of Wellington for 3 days of
sunshine, hot spa pools and ultimate. About 70 players in all. The first day
was split mens / womens and 3 mens teams played round robin (twice), with the
women split into 2 teams playing games to 21. Weather was hot and sunny and
there was free sun cream from the tounament organisers, thankfully.

The Sunday and Monday was the tournament proper. The players were split into 5
teams to play round robin with the top 2 playing off in a final. As with
nearly all NZ ultimate the play was strictly co-ed with a 5/2 split. Team
shirts were provided - with a Cluedo emphasis, hence the teams being Mrs
White, Miss Scarlet, Mrs Peacock, Professor Plum and Reverend Green. Sundays
play was in mixed conditions, but with only two rain showers it was warm
enough to dry off quickly.

The Sunday play finished early(ish) for everyone to go down to the outdoor AC
baths in Taupo for relaxation and food - thrown in was use of the pool BBQ.
The hot thermal pools were a great way to relax the muscles, I can highly
recommend it how about Ross 2000, stop people moaning about the showers!.

Sunday night was the rugby (1 a.m. for England v South Africa - enough said, 6
a.m. NZ v Scotland - got through that one but enough said a week later !!).

Monday the weather was back to its glorious best (I got a bit lobstered), and
Reverend Green came through in the final against Mrs White to win the tourney
remaining unbeaten. Haven't got the full results etc but the pictures can be
seen on ....

where you can pick out some ex-pats (me in Rev Green, Kath (?Cath) ex F6/CAF
in Rev Green too, the wife in Professor Plum and probably some Kiwis that you
may recognise from your / their trips).

Hopes all's well in the UK and its not too cold and wet.

Coops. x Headrush 14
