Picnic in the sky 15. Fingers 6 16. Alien Nation (Cranfield) I suppose you have read Laurence's report already so I will keep this brief... A very high standard of play in this years finals, even the bottom placed team (Alien Nation) proving to be no push overs. The group games went with the seedings apart from Picnic suffering from a loss of form. Avoiding unneccessary crossover games meant more play on the huge 35m pitch as things began to get interesting. The mighty Skunks and Catch powered their way through the Q/F's but there were close games between Fingers and Sneeeky's, Jesters and Bears, Disciples and Jedi with all the formers losing to the latters in sudden death caps (all 8-9). Special mention to Jedi's Bruce for an outstanding over head World's for a score! Picnic produced some of their best play of the day in the cap against Phat Ed's but it was too little to late. Sunday's play produced longer caps as the games became tighter, Sorcerers unlucky against Ow! in their bid for the top 6, losing on the last point. In the Plate semi's Phat Ed's cruised past Skunks II and Sneeekys traded points with Jedi until geting two ahead before the cap and managing to keep their lead. (All this despite my attempts to prevent the Sneeeks from sleeping.) Mowhawks succumbed to Skunks 10 - 6 and Bears were firmly removed by Catch 16 - 4 in the championship semi's. The play offs for final postions were entertaing games (all 22 mins + cap!) Fingers having to battle to finally beat Alien Nation, Leeds beat Southampton for the first time in the day (but only after sudden death), Jesters just losing out to Ow! 8-9 for 5th place. In the Plate final Sneeekys made Phat Ed's work hard for their prize, taking it 11 - 9. The final itself was intensely competed, all calls being discussed intelligently before resuming play. Catch managed a 4 - 0 lead before Skunks came back, Bob Himms and Sonic dueling like flying aces. However in the end Bob was the Biggles, awarded MVP by an independant judge, as Catch took it 11 - 6. One thing I found when organising this event is the importance of keeping your contact address updated with the BUF (not that I am blaming anyone!), here are some alterations to the list distributed in October(?): Disciples Richard Evans 98 Arncliffe Terr.
