WR>(even Southampton Uni are planning to charge their own students full WR>whack for hosting any future TOUR events - mostly due of the number of WR>NON students that attend!) Skunks started hosting tournament back in the day that Al Baldwin was the club secretary to raise funds so that we could make playing Ultimate cheaper for our students (subsidise playing tops, fees etc). This is still the reason why they do it. I've seen the figures for next year and providing they don't arrange discounts for bulk bookings (not probable) then they propose to charge £25 per session per pitch for outdoors and about £15 per session for the sports hall. A session is 1.5 hours, do your sums and then add on another few hundred pounds for the extra indoor pitch at the school at christmas. It's not so much of a profit maker any more is it? This means that students can't subsidise their players tops and their match fees. Maybe this will lead to less players, the result of this is that there will be fewer players in the future. I think you'll find this sort of scenario all over the country, and maybe this is why there aren't that many tournament bids going in for the 'compulsory' events. For all the time and effort put in (trust me it's a fair amount) you don't get that much return if you're doing it privately and none at all if you're running it for the club. Ask Wayne and Chris how much they have made out of Layout Dreams over the past few years - and they'll tell you not very much. So please stop moaning about tournament costs, generally if the price is set then it's there for a reason - they're not trying to make as much profit as Charlie Mead but some would be nice. And some appreciation for what they do probably wouldn't go amiss. To all the Druids on Britdisc, I think the idea for fees at Ross next year is a good one. Shall we start at Nationals?
