We feel that a 25% commission charge is excessive, and against the ethos of the tournament and the sport. Merchandising is a fundamental and enjoyable aspect of the Worlds. It is a chance for teams to partly fund their way to the Worlds. It is also a chance for everyone to take souvenirs home. This aspect of the tournament is not one where players want to charge huge prices for their wares; it simply isn't fair on the participants. However, with such high commission rates, teams only have two "legal" options: 1. Keep the prices down, thus removing any chance of securing a return on their investment of time and energy into the design and printing of the merchandise. 2. Inflate the prices they will be selling their merchandise at, in order to justify this time investment. Either one of these options is a no-win situation for the players, but an apparent win situation for the tournament coffers. With the situation as it is, teams are deciding either to not make any merchandise at all, or to sell it to on the pitch sidelines: both are situations that the WFDF should not endorse, or be seen to be the direct cause of. We would like to request a reduction of the commission fee to a level that is fairer and more realistic. One that will not alienate the players from the tournament organisers, and one that will encourage people to use the merchandise tent. We feel that a reduction in the rate to 10% is acceptable. If a reduction is not possible, could you please provide us with a justification of this commission rate?
