Hello Golfers,
There was a mass turnout for the Scottish Open on 1/2 May on
the island of Mull. Many players were new to tournament golf and
we were very pleased to see new faces.

We had a record turnout of 55 which is about a 25% increase on
last year. Simon Luard got off to a flying start with a first round of
47. He held on to his lead going into the 4th round but slipped
back and after 4 rounds I led by 4 from Oz Freire, Sam Neilson,
Liam Young and Simon.

There was then a 9 hole final for the top 5 and the pack closed in
as all except me birdied the first hole. Sammy then deuced the
following 3 holes to draw level with me in the lead. On hole 5 it
looked like Sam might take the lead outright as his drive was the
closest, but I holed out from 15 metres to stop the rot and Sam
took a 3. I got another birdie on the 6th to regain a two shot lead
and this time was able to hold on to it and take my 6th title.

Daniel Luton won the junior event and Oliver Luton took the junior
juniors title.

At the awards ceremony plans were announced to get baskets
for the course and pledges were invited. This drew a marvellous
response and something like 10 or 11 baskets were pledged.

Thanks to Guy and Sophie Bolton, Charlie Mead and all the
others who helped with the organisation.

Next stop on the BDGA Tour is Hayling Island on 22/23 May and
then the Quarry Park Open on 12/13 June.

Beginners welcome!

Derek Robins

PS Trevor Bechtel aced hole 10! on the new course.
