I _can_ enlighten you this much: Captain's meeting is at 9.00am on Saturday 10 Games start at 9.30am on Saturday Which teams are playing in these games will depend on whether any more teams drop out - we HAD 31 until Picnic pulled out yesterday! - and whether any more (there was one possibility) join in. Chris Hughes (schedule author) is now out of contact until Saturday morning - so we can't ask him, either... SO, DON'T BE LATE, or you may lose your game if you can't do 7-on-the-line, ready to play, when the hooter goes! More information... Seedings are based upon Nationals'98 results, THEN Tour'98 Rankings (i.e. teams that attended Nationals 98 will be seeded higher than teams that didn't, and Catch 22 [National Champs] are seeded above UTI [Nationals Runner-Up]) with any "new" teams slotted in at the TD's discretion. I'll TRY to publish the list of seedings this evening. (Please note that these may not be the final seedings used for the tournament!) Tournament Format/Schedule: (designed by Chris Hughes) - and not too dissimilar (Chris thinks, but I can't prove, either way) to Tour I (Leicester)'98 (Please note that this may not be the final format used for the tournament!) Saturday: Round 1: round-robin in 8 "traditional" pools of 4, with two spaces (apologies to UTI and Catch22 - looks like you'll have training time on Saturday!) ----------------------------------------- | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | ----------------------------------------- | 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | | 15 | 16 | 13 | 14 | 11 | 12 | 09 | 10 | | 17 | 18 | 19 | 20 | 21 | 22 | 23 | 24 | | -- | -- | 29 | 30 | 27 | 28 | 25 | 26 | ----------------------------------------- (the "staggers" are there so that, if everything goes perfectly to seeding, the Round3 08vs09... and 16v17... games haven't already been played in the Saturday pools) Round 2: 01v08... 09v16... 17v24... play ONE knockout game. --------------------------- | 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 | 1 knockout game --------------------------- | 15 16 13 14 11 12 09 10 | 1 knockout game --------------------------- | 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 | 1 knockout game --------------------------- 25-30 go into two pools of 3, and play a round-robin (1 game Sat, 1 Sun) Sunday: Round 3: 01-04; (i.e. winners of 01v08...) play semis and finals These will be longer than Saturday games. The FINAL will be played to the new WFDF Rules. 05-12; (i.e. loosers of 01v08... and winners of 09v16...) 13-20; (i.e. loosers of 09v16... and winners of 17v24...) play knockouts (quarters, semis and finals) 21-24; (i.e. loosers of 17v24...) play a round-robin pool 25-30 finish their round robin pools and have playoffs between pools --------------- | 01 02 03 04 | semis + finals ----------------------------- | 05 06 07 08 | knockout | 11 12 09 10 | ----------------------------- | 15 16 13 14 | knockout | 17 18 19 20 | ----------------------------- | 21 22 23 24 | round robin ----------------------------- | 25 26 | 27 28 | 29 30 | playoffs ------------------------- Conclusions: # In theory, any team can win this tournament - but you have to finish top of your Saturday pool to acheive this. # There are no "second chances" in this format - if you want to win the tournament, you will have to win ALL of your games (unless you want to rely on a lucky tie outcome!). ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Hitchin format Author: David Trovell <david.trovell@bmpomd.co.uk> at ~Internet Date: 08/04/99 12:39 Hi Wayne, Can you tell me who UTI are playing first and when?
