As you say, with a student base of 2500 students it shouldn't be too difficult however Middlesex University have around 20,000 students and we still can't field a decent squad for the outdoor season and have had to withdraw from Exeter as a result. Parents may be a problem although the people we're trying to attract ARE the parents!!! Does anyone have some great recruiting idea's/suggestions for the up-and-coming fresher's week to attract them to Ultimate and TO MAKE THEM STAY!! We had a decent number of members in October 1997 but gradually lost them over the subsequent months. I appreciate it will be a difficult task to attract big numbers due to Middlesex's unfortunate geography and the mature student population (having familie's etc.) but how can a balance be achieved in appealing to competitive sports people and those that aren't so competitive and just want a good time? I think true Ultimate initiation comes by going to a tourny but even that seems like a huge feat and thats even when the Uni are paying entry fee and transportation. HELP! Jo 'from Chaos'
