Stan nearly provided the shock of the tournament in its first game. Trailing Shotgun by 6 at about half they pulled back to 16-15, game to 17 before finally succumbing 17-15. The other game in this pool saw Catch 22 and Violently Happy playing a very tight contest where both teams had high hopes of progressing to the semi's. I believe the game went to the cap and was tied at 13-13 sudden death. VH pulled out the stops to keep there hopes alive clinching it 14-13. Stan buoyed by their excellent come back against Shotgun soon destroyed VH's aspirations and wrapped up second place beating both them and Catch comfortably. Shotgun eased into to the semi's in first place without any more close calls. In the other pool UTI and Druids beat Headrush and Chevron comfortably to set up the crunch game from this pool, who would avoid Shotgun in the semi! UTI took an early lead and seemed to be scoring upwind reasonably well apparently putting behind the trauma of last weekend behind them. At 8-4 up they were poised to take the half and probably the match as they had done all summer against the Druids. However Druids adjusted there style and started playing zone in both directions clamping down on UTI's ability to employ their running game. 3 points in a row for Druids and suddenly the contest was back on. UTI then managed to score down wind to take the half. UTI came out guns blazing to score down and up wind to stretch the lead back to 4. Druids and their zone slowly clawed themselves back into it again to level at 13-13 as time expired. Druids turned UTI over early and had two good opportunities to score the vital upwind point but rushes of blood to the head gave the disc back both times and UTI completed a huck play to regain the initiative. Druids scored downwind comfortably setting up the sudden death point. UTI had possession for most of the point but were unable to move constructively down field, another huck lead to a turn over and Druids moved steadily up field to score, their delight obvious after a first win over UTI in Britain. So the semi's see Shotgun vs UTI and 2 teams many had written off Druids vs Stan. As the weather worsens can UTI pull it out against Shotgun?
