In response to the final decision regarding relaxing the women's rule
I have just spoken to Tara and has asked me to put this out on Brit
Disc.
Only two opinions were put out on Brit Disc about this, a negative
view point from Harry and a positive from Wayne. How is it that this
relaxation of the rules has been disallowed when no other negative
views have been made known? Surely as this affects quite a few players
which prompted the request in the first place if there has been any
negative views these should have been made known for more people to
respond. Can you please explain what reasons there are for this
constraining of women's ultimate?
We both feel that perhaps more people could have become involved about
the subject over the Brit Disc forum for discussion, perhaps more so
than discussions about the tournament reports!!
I personally emailed Si with my opinion that I would eventually like
to see a complete division in the game between women's and men's
ultimate. At competition level in any sport this is necessary and it
is the way that the game has progressed in more advanced ultimate
countries. Of course co-ed still exists, but in properly run co-ed
tournaments. However, this has to be done in such a way, and at such a
time, when it will not stop women playing or joining the sport. I also
feel, though, that I would like more key women players totally
committing to the womens game.
My final thoughts to Si on this subject were that perhaps a relaxation
of the rules this year with the understanding that it would not be the
same next year would mean that women look to align themselves with a
women's team ready for next season. The tour could then run this year
without Bliss losing numbers and with an emphasis on the preparation
for more women's teams next year.
Thanks
