X-Sun-Charset: US-ASCII Sender: owner-britdisc@warwick.ac.uk Precedence: bulk 1. Rumbling "discussion" about reports. 2. No change to Women's (and Junior) rules. 3. Entry to Swindon, Relegation from Leicester. 1. Firstly a couple of points about the ongoing ramblings on BD. I think things have got out of hand on the report front. As far as the Tour Newsletter goes, this will be a short, quickly produced single sheet of A4. Most ultimate news will continue to be published more carefully in Ultimatum! The Tour Newsletter will merely be a results-service. So that teams now how many tour points they have, etc... It will include info about the next tour event(s). I just wanted a couple of short, amusing reports to add a bit of meat to what would otherwise be just results. I have also had several people volunteering to do one or two reports. Thanks to them. Hopefully you can all just do one (unless you want to do more) in which case - go for it! I'll be in touch... Commenting on other ideas: Ollie: "laugh I nearly joined Catch 22" ?? Mmm, do you think a team can have two players as slow as you and me? Who will play dump? or do you just want to be water-boy? Captain and game reports: Um - look if I asked myself to write report on every game we played, I think I would slap myself in the face. So God knows what other captains might do to me. (Rog: don't answer that.) General rudeness and silly arguing. Does anyone else remember with fondness the "bog-roll at Ross" argument? Now *THAT* was ridiculous - and yet now there is bog roll at Ross.... usually. Also (Matt) don't forget that some of the people arguing do know each other pretty well. 2. No Change to the Rules After long conversations with Sue Underwood (the GB Women Capt) I feel that it is best that we do NOT rush into altering the rules at this late stage. i) Its difficult to gauge just how many will benefit, and indeed if it will have any benefit to women's ultimate. ii) There was plenty of time for people to see this earlier in the year and make it easier to consult everyone. Its way too late. I blame myself for even considering that we might make a change at such short notice. It doesn't make sense. iii) Sue intends that as many women players as poss. meet this w/e to discuss this and some other questions. (In particular the possibility of a seperate women's division next year, and *maybe* even a trial run at one of this year's events.) If the result of that discussion is that in general people feel that the women's game will be helped by the suggested rule-change, THEN we will have better grounds for doing it. iv) The rules are already extremely flexible. Both the current women's teams that have entered are unrostered. And there is the GUEST rule as well. v) As Harry said, there are many players who have had to make tough decisions about who to play for. I'm not sure that women players should necessarily get off this hook! (Esp. not those who are obviously good enough to be playing in some of the higher-up rostered open teams.) I'm sorry to those players who did want this change to happen. In particular I hope that this does not affect BLISS's ability to field a team. I know that everyone involved here has what they consider to be the best interest of women's ultimate at heart. Its not suprising that we don't all agree. Unfortunately at this point someone had to make a decision - and I wish it hadn't been me - cos then I would have got more work done this week. 3. ENTRY TO SWINDON / RELEGATION FROM LEICESTER As of this morning 27 teams have sent deposits for Swindon! The closing date is Sat. morning. Strcitly speaking you should have either paid Wayne Retter by then or at least agreed with him that you have an excellent reason for not having paid him quite yet. If MORE THAN 32 TEAMS have paid deposits by the closing date then the bottom 4 clubs at Leicester will temporarily be relegated out. Its all in the rules. Don't panic tho' - I doubt this will really happen in quite such a drastic way. If you haven't paid you deposit by this Sat. then you will only get in on the basis of first come first served for any remaining places. If you don't understand, please check the rules before asking me... (sorry to sound mean - but all this stuff is really eating into my work). Can't wait for Saturday! Can't wait for Sunday. Oh - if you have some pitch-marking cones and its easy to bring them it would help us a lot if you could bung them in the boot of your car! Ta. Si
