As expected the pre-match hype was enormous with both players and supporters giving plenty of lip. The implications of defeat were unimaginable, the stakes as high as they get. The nation held it's breath. On a poor pitch and some vile weather conditions the teams kicked off the start of an epic game. Catch-22 made a strong start and were 3 nil up after only 20 minutes. With the crowd shouting we want 22 it looked like Chevron were dead and buried, the game seemed over before it had started. But Chevron dug deep and with a great individual goal from Kenny, started a comeback that pulled it all square and then just before the half they went 4-3 up. Catch were looking a little dejected but a stiring half time talk, and using the advantage of their substitute to the full they started to show their true class. Despite some controversial refering decisions Catch pulled the game back and in the last quarter hour some really good crowd pleasing football was played. The match finished with Catch winning 8-4. Steve Shipley getting a remarkable 4 goals. In world cup tradition the match was finished with a penalty shoot out, each player having to take a penalty. Steve's form left him when his shot came crashing off the bar, whilst Harry `Chrissy Wadle' Golby made an appaling miss. Both keepers made some fine saves and so it all came down to the last catch penalty. Gareth Southgate made a brave effort but it wasn't to be, and Chevron made off with the conselation prize. It was a great afternoon notable for its lack of crowd violence. It was time to get some beers and watch the amateurs in Rome play. Catch's impressive record now runs to two wins in two games, having previously beaten shotgun comfortably. Are there any other challangers out there? Andy Tucker andrew.tucker@warwick.ac.uk
