In some senses this is exactly what the tour is about! Ultimate is Britain in my view has been damaged in the last 10years (that I have been playing) by the reliance of the student feed into ultimate. Every year we see the same situation with university old-boys&girls geographically dispersed *stagnant* teams starting up which do absolutely nothing to develop the growth of Ultimate. These university leavers should be moving into a club scene which is more dependent on where they live - clubs which are more organised, professional and in a much better position to promote and grow the sport. If you are in an old-boys/girls team ask yourself how many new (I mean new to ultimate) players you have recruited and developed, how much publicity you are able to attract, even how often you practice!? (Red has around 15 new players this year, 10-20 paper articles and 3 lots of TV coverage, 3 practices a week and is now backed by Leicester City Council, Bass and are actually being approached by sponsors) The tour has actually done a lot to promote the more geo-centric approach. The fact that we have had people writing about rostering, and how this has made it hard to move between teams is proof of this. We should all be doing a lot to get are teams into a position where the requirement to enter 4 tour events really isn't a problem. However, the tour isn't the be all and end all, it just serves a particular purpose (and one that is evolving as we learn). We DO NEED MORE TOURNAMENTS. How many people have to say it! Ultimate is the property of you the player/club as is the BUF. If you sit on your hands doing bog all then you must shoulder some to the blame. The BUF is doing all it can this year to promote extra tournaments including; - underwiriting/loaning clubs the capital required to set up tournaments - Insuring tournament organisers against liability - sending out the regional co-ordinators to harrass every single club to put on a tournament There is even an officer whose job it is to help you out with advice and information about running tournaments (Si Hill). I think I'll stop here before I implode. I bit of a digression, I know, but it is at the root of Marks gripes.
