I do, however feel that MORE consistency is needed in the Tour event formats - were any 2 on the same format this year? This is where, I feel, Nancy's point about Saturday morning being the most important game of the event for some teams arises... she has no problems playing at 9.30am on Saturday, but if they *HAVE* to come top of a pool because there are 17 or 23 (or some other similarly awkward number [try scheduling it!] as at *most* of the events) teams and they make a mistake and lose, they have no second chance! There was originally a "Tour Format" proposed, with the first round of games in pools as at Nationals (and nowhere else, that I know of?). The second round 5-12 section got modified to give 2nd chances, but the first round never happened properly! [apologies if this has got a bit rambly, but it's a pet hate of mine, I'll stop in a minute!] The format can be used if we have the right number of teams (divisible by 4!) at a tournament - so come on the nonRostered teams! Giles: You feel that you learn more in a close game, about your team pulling through together, remembering some particular weaknesses of your regular opposition, etc. but have you never felt that you've learnt, when being walloped by Shotgun, when if you can work out what they're doing, and make them take 15 passes (maybe including a near-D), rather than 4, to score? Andy also wrote, repeating Si Hill: > If you want to see more tournaments that aren't part of the tour, THEN > ORGANISE THEM. This year was a bit "busy" for some (who took 3 weeks, or so, to go to WUCC97, and 2 weekends for EUC97) with the Tour and all. But there were only 4 (maybe 5? one was Womens' Nationals) OTHER tournaments organised, two on the same weekend, and not many of the "big" teams went to them (due to the "busy" reasons) All credit to the organisers for running these tournaments. Hopefully they'll do them again next year, now they know how easy it is! and will get more teams and we'll see the whallopings that some people learn from, and what the students can really do! That's it, I'm done! Wayne ___________________________________________________________________ Notice of Confidentiality This transmission is intended for the named addressee only.
